Design Background

In the context of the pandemic, the self-ordering machine Kiosk has gradually become popular. Guests can order food by themselves without interacting with people, which greatly reduces the risk of contracting the virus from contact with people when ordering. Kiosks offer banknote-free transactions, which also greatly control what customers touch. Under this trend, we try to explore how to design a kiosk for self-ordering for a restaurant, and try to improve the ordering experience.

Design Concept

This is a team project. We found some problems with existing dumpling restaurants and Kiosks in our previous investigation. My team and I each came up with our own solutions. Finally, after discussion, the function of customizing the number of dumplings and APP linkage will be added to Kiosk. I put forward the idea of barrier-free mode, hoping to better improve the experience of customers with limited height such as disabled or children.

Design Elements

In this project, I am mainly responsible for the interface design of Kiosk. In order to better unify the style of Kiosk and APP, I refer to the product packaging of Mr Chen's Dumplings. Taking this as inspiration, he drew six cartoon characters of dumplings, steamed buns, fried rice, fried noodles, drinks and seasonings. These images will be used in subsequent Kiosks and APPs.
